the journey north

May 8, 2009

After 3 days in Southport, N.C., we left on Friday, May 7 at 9am. Dave changed the oil, air filters and made a test run. Everything is running smoothly. The boat looked beautiful. We had someone cleaning the bottom on a regular basis, and it is clean and waxed. I wish it could stay that way, without all the work.

The weather was perfect. Some things looked familiar, but I noticed more than I did on the last trip from Beaufort to Southport. We saw dolphins. The water was dead calm and although the day was long, (9 hours) we never felt the need to stop, except for fuel. Coming through Camp Lejune was interesting. Fortunately, there were no live firing excercises (which does happen) so we had no delays. We saw abandoned tanks on the shore.

I was surprised at the low traffic for such a beautiful day.

We had a nice surprise when we got to Beaufort, It was the start of a free weekend music festival, country, blue grass. We were lucky to get a slip for the night. We also met a boat from Boston, the Instigator, also kept at Marina Bay. They are traveling from Miami, and spent some time offshore.

We are spending two nights at Beaufort. It is windy today, but still warm (80). Tomorrow will be cooler, but still sunny. All is well.

  2. Ah Bo, still very cool in Boston stay south for at least another week.
I was in DC last week and went to the Gaylord Convention Center in National Harbor. They have slips and may be worth stopping for lunch or over night. I did however get the feeling it was big bucks but worth a look. I have info at my office I will send along.
