We traveled from Beaufort to Belhave on Sunday. The dock was full of overnight party boats, so we had to travel to Oriental for fuel and pump-out. It was a 2 1/2 hour ride. It was so pretty in Oriental, that we were tempted to stay, but the weather was so nice we decided to continue. In the past, a 2 1/2 hour trip would have seemed like a long one, but traveling on this route is so interesting, time passes without notice. At 2:55 we arrived in Belhaven. We chose a different marina this time and made a great choice, Belhaven Waterway Marina. The owners are cruisers themselves, so they arrange everything for the boaters. The town could have been used to film To Kill a Mockingbird. Since it was Sunday, everything was closed, but the Marina was so nice, it was a pleasure to cook there and hang out. The owners had a room full of WWII Navy memorabilia which was fascinating. We met a boat load of travelers from California who were planning a great loop and eventually going through the Panama Canal.
On Monday, we traveled to Coinjock, which felt like a homecoming. We are staying at Midway Marina, very friendly staff. Lots of boats are staying overnight, so we should have a good time at dinner.
The weather has turned cooler, in the 60s, and breezy, but still very pleasant. I'm seeing many different birds. Tomorrow, we'll be in Virginia. Not sure yet where we'll stop.
